Portraits Inspired by Facebook

Your Facebook identity is a version of yourself, probably idealized and somewhat inaccurate. We curate our identities and prepare a face to meet the faces that we meet. We choose what to tag and untag, what information to share, what to post and Like, and in doing such we build an avatar of ourselves that we feel is a suitable digital manifestation of us. Some people do this more consciously than others.

This photo series, a work in progress, aims to tell the story of my Facebook friends, as told through their profiles. Through an image, I’m trying to capture an admittedly one-dimensional summation of the story that “friend” is telling about themselves through the socially-networked content they offer.

Bikini Gardener - Veronica’s daily posts are almost entirely about her garden, organic foods and cooking, and how to stay fit and get a good tan working your backyard.

Glass House – Michael is a writer/producer for 5 Second Films. His posts are often funny, daily updates on the latest uniquely absurd micro-film that his team has created.

Motivational Poster – Jenny should be everyone’s friend on Facebook. Almost every day she finds some inspirational image or quote to share on her wall. A little motivation to remind us that we’re ok.
